Electrical contractor for Armour Heights homes and rebuilds
Armour Heights has 1940s and 50s houses side by side with new custom homes. We upgrade the originals and wire the rebuilds, from temporary power to the final ESA inspection.
The neighbourhood
Armour Heights, old and new on the same street
Armour Heights sits west of Yonge Street, near Avenue Road and Highway 401. Its streets were mostly built up in the 1940s and 50s, with brick and stone houses on generous lots.
Over the last couple of decades, many of those lots have been rebuilt. A walk down most streets shows an original house between two new custom homes. That gives Armour Heights two very different kinds of electrical work.
The originals were wired for a much smaller load. Their panels were often 60 amps, sometimes later raised to 100. The new homes are planned from the start for central air, heated floors, large kitchens, smart lighting and a car charger in the garage.
Keeping an original house
Owners who keep an older Armour Heights home usually want it to live like a new one. That means a modern service, grounded circuits in the kitchen and baths, and better lighting. We start with a full inspection, then price the work in stages if you prefer.
A 200 amp North York panel upgrade is the common first step. It gives a renovated kitchen, an addition or a finished basement the capacity to run without tripping.
Custom rebuilds
How we wire an Armour Heights rebuild
Most of our rebuild work is for general contractors and custom builders. The sequence follows the build.
Plans and load calculation
We size the service from the drawings and agree the panel, meter and generator locations.
Temporary power
We arrange site power with Toronto Hydro so the trades can work from day one.
Rough-in
Cable, boxes, low-voltage and lighting runs, checked against the plan and inspected by ESA before insulation.
Service and panel
The permanent service is energized once ESA authorizes the connection.
Finishing and sign-off
Devices, fixtures and controls go in, then final inspection and the Certificate of Acceptance.
What new homes include
The systems a rebuild here usually needs
New Armour Heights homes are large, and owners expect them to be comfortable during an outage. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch is a common request. We plan its pad, its circuits and the gas connection point early, so nothing has to be moved later. See backup generators in North York.
Lighting is designed, not just installed. Pot lights, stair lights, cabinet lighting and exterior fixtures are laid out with the designer and grouped on dimmers or a lighting control system.
Garages are usually wired for one or two Level 2 chargers, even if the owners do not drive electric yet. Running the circuit at rough-in costs far less than opening finished walls later.

Questions
Armour Heights electrical questions
We're tearing down and rebuilding in Armour Heights. When should we bring in the electrician?
Before the drawings are final. The service size, panel location, generator pad and EV-ready garage all affect the plans. Early input also lets us request temporary power and the new service from Toronto Hydro in good time.
How big a service does a new custom home need?
It comes from a load calculation, not a rule of thumb. Many new custom homes need 200 amps. Larger homes with electric heating, a pool, heated floors or several EV chargers may need more. We size it from your plans and Toronto Hydro confirms what it can supply.
Our older Armour Heights house is staying. What usually needs attention?
The service size and the age of the wiring. Many original panels are 60 or 100 amps. Wiring from that era may be ungrounded in places. An inspection tells you which circuits are fine and which should be replaced before you renovate.
Do you work with general contractors and builders?
Yes. A large share of our work is for general contractors and custom home builders, from temporary power and rough-in through to final connections and ESA sign-off. Two crews mean we can keep to your schedule on larger projects.
