Licensed electrician in Mississauga
From 1950s homes in Applewood and Lakeview to the subdivisions of Erin Mills and Meadowvale and large rebuilds in Mineola and Lorne Park, we bring the same licensed crew and permitted work to Mississauga that we bring to Toronto.
Electrical work in Mississauga
A city of subdivisions, each from its own decade
Mississauga grew outward in waves. Applewood, Lakeview and parts of Port Credit and Cooksville were built up in the 1950s and 60s. Erin Mills and Meadowvale followed in the 1970s and 80s, and Churchill Meadows and the northwest filled in during the late 1990s and 2000s. Each wave arrived with the electrical standards of its day, which is why two homes a few kilometres apart can need completely different work.
Mississauga is in Peel Region and is supplied by Alectra Utilities, not Toronto Hydro. Building permits, including for second units and additions, come from the City of Mississauga. Electrical permits still come from the Electrical Safety Authority, the same as anywhere in Ontario, and we file those.
Service size by era
What Mississauga homes commonly start with
Typical starting points, not rules. Plenty of homes have been upgraded already; the main breaker tells you for certain.
| Built | Areas | Common service | What usually comes next |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1950s and 60s | Applewood, Lakeview, Cooksville, parts of Port Credit | 60 or 100 amps | Service upgrade before any major addition |
| 1970s and 80s | Erin Mills, Meadowvale, Streetsville | Often 100 amps | Load check before an EV charger or heat pump |
| 1990s and 2000s | Churchill Meadows, Lisgar, East Credit | 100 to 200 amps | Basement finishing, chargers, surge protection |
| New custom rebuilds | Mineola, Lorne Park, Port Credit | 200 amps or more | Full design from temporary power to final |
Upgrades with Alectra
Panel and service upgrades in Mississauga
A panel upgrade that stays within the existing service is straightforward. One that increases the service, or needs it disconnected, has to be coordinated with Alectra. We request the disconnect and reconnect, file our ESA permit, and once ESA has passed the work, the utility restores power. Whether your service comes in overhead or underground is the biggest factor in the price, and in much of Mississauga's newer housing it's underground.
Most of the requests we get are driven by one of three things: an EV charger, a heat pump replacing a gas furnace or air conditioner, or a finished basement with its own kitchen.
Rebuilds in Mineola and Lorne Park
On the large, treed lots of Mineola and Lorne Park, older bungalows are often replaced with custom homes. Those builds need an electrical contractor from the first day on site: temporary power, a new service sized from a load calculation, rough-in, lighting design, an EV-ready garage, and often a generator-ready panel. That's the work we do for builders.

What customers say
Reviews from our customers
Incredible experience all around! Amazing and thoughtful communication and would definitely recommend. We have used them multiple times and really appreciate all their hard work!
Dedicated to finding and fixing all the issues. Pleasant experience, explained what they were doing with good nature. Highly recommended.
We agreed on Friday at 8:00am. Shaldin, Michael and Legion at our home on time. They were punctual, friendly and above all very professional.
Excellent communication, transparency and service. The staff at MARRAST is very devoted to offering the best electrical and general contracting services to the community.
Effective Communication and Inspection throughout every step of the project. Work was done in a professional manner with all messes cleanup at end of day. Cost reasonable when compared. Project took a bit longer to complete, but I am very happy with the finished design and upgrades. Thank you! Blessings
[Shaldin] responded very quickly to my request for a diagnostic service call. He was very accommodating to our questions, and provided good counsel which resulted [in] us not having to do additional work. Very honest. Thanks [Shaldin]!!!!
Questions
Mississauga electrical questions
Who is the hydro utility in Mississauga?
Alectra Utilities, which took over from Enersource when several utilities merged in 2017. If your panel upgrade changes or disconnects the service, Alectra does the disconnect and reconnect. We make the request and plan our work around their appointment.
Is my Mississauga home's service big enough for an EV charger?
It depends on the home's age and what else it runs. Many 1970s and 80s homes have 100 amp service, which can sometimes take a charger with load management and sometimes can't. We do a load calculation and give you the options.
Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. A Level 2 charger needs its own 240-volt circuit, usually 40 to 60 amps. We do a load calculation on your home first. If your panel has room, we install the charger on its own circuit. If it doesn't, the options are a panel or service upgrade, or in some homes a load management device that lets the charger share capacity. We'll tell you which applies.
Do you take out the ESA permit?
Yes. In Ontario, the licensed contractor files the notification of work with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and books the inspection. We handle it on every job that needs one, and you get the ESA Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes. Keep it: insurers and home buyers often ask for it.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Marrast Contracting is a Licensed Electrical Contractor, licence ECRA/ESA 7016430, and every job is led by Shaldin Marrast, a Master Electrician. You can check our licence on the Electrical Safety Authority's contractor lookup at esasafe.com.
