Electrical work in Wasaga Beach

From summer cottages to a year-round town

Wasaga Beach stretches along Nottawasaga Bay, the southern end of Georgian Bay, on one of the longest freshwater beaches in the world. The Nottawasaga River runs behind the shore, with River Road following it. For most of the last century, this was a place people came to in July and August.

That has changed. Many of the small cottages near the water are now full-time homes for retirees and families. Newer subdivisions have filled in land back from the beach. Other houses are still seasonal and sit closed for months at a time.

Electricity comes from Wasaga Distribution. Building permits come from the Town of Wasaga Beach. The electrical permit is filed with the Electrical Safety Authority by us, on every job that needs one.

Winter on Nottawasaga Bay

Storms, outages and houses nobody is in

Cold winds crossing the open bay build lake-effect snow squalls that can bury the shore in hours. Heavy snow and ice weigh down trees and lines, and outages follow.

In a full-time home, an outage means a cold, dark evening. In a seasonal house that's closed until spring, it can mean frozen pipes or a flooded crawl space. That is why standby generators in Wasaga Beach come up so often.

A generator, a hot tub or a car charger all need room on the electrical service. When a converted cottage still has its original service, a Wasaga Beach panel upgrade usually comes first.

Inside the house

Rewiring, chargers and better light

Cottages that grew a room at a time often have wiring to match. Before a cottage becomes a permanent home, home wiring and rewiring in Wasaga Beach brings it up to a standard you can insure.

Getting around Wasaga Beach means driving, and errands or work often mean Barrie or Collingwood. A Level 2 charger at home makes an electric car practical. See EV charger installation in Wasaga Beach for how we plan the circuit and the location.

Newer homes and converted cottages both tend to be short on good light. Low panelled ceilings, open great rooms and dark kitchens all benefit from a proper plan. Our Wasaga Beach pot lights page explains how we lay it out.

Marrast Contracting did an outstanding job installing my EV outlet. Shaldin and his team delivered exactly what I wanted, with minimal touch-ups needed afterwards. The process was clear, cost-effective, and I always knew what to expect. Shaldin went above and beyond to make sure I was completely satisfied. Questions

Wasaga Beach electrical questions

Which utility supplies power in Wasaga Beach?

The town has its own local distributor, Wasaga Distribution. If your property sits just outside the town line, your bill may name a different utility. We read the name on your bill and book the disconnect and reconnect with that company.

Is travel time added to a Wasaga Beach job?

Yes. Wasaga Beach is outside the GTA, so the written quote includes travel time as its own line. You see it before you book. We also group the work into as few trips as the job allows.

Can you work on our place while we're not there?

Often, yes. Many owners leave a key in a lockbox or with a neighbour or caretaker. We send photos as the work goes, and we arrange access for the ESA inspector too. The Certificate of Acceptance is emailed to you when the work passes.

Do I need a permit from the Town for electrical work?

The electrical permit comes from the Electrical Safety Authority, and we file it. Bigger projects, such as an addition or a new unit, also need a building permit from the Town of Wasaga Beach. We give your designer or builder the electrical details that application needs.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Marrast Contracting is a Licensed Electrical Contractor, licence ECRA/ESA 7016430, and every job is led by Shaldin Marrast, a Master Electrician. You can check our licence on the Electrical Safety Authority's contractor lookup at esasafe.com.
