Commercial electrical · Toronto & GTA
Commercial electrician for Toronto and GTA businesses
Shops, offices, restaurants and multi-unit buildings need an electrician who works to a schedule, keeps the space safe for customers and staff, and leaves the paperwork in order. That's how we run every commercial job.
What we do for businesses
Commercial electrical contractor in Toronto
A commercial space can't sit dark for a week while an electrician works through a list. Most of the work we do for businesses is planned so the space stays open, or so the shutdown happens when nobody is there. Before we start, we agree when the power can go off, which circuits are critical (the till, refrigeration, the server closet, security), and how we'll keep the work area safe and tidy for customers.
Every job is led by Shaldin Marrast, a Master Electrician, and every job that needs one gets an ESA permit and inspection. You get a written price before we start and the Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes, which your landlord, insurer or the next tenant may ask to see.
Who we work for
- Retail and restaurants. New circuits for equipment, lighting refreshes, signage power and repairs that can't wait.
- Offices and clinics. Fit-outs, extra circuits for workstations and equipment, and lighting upgrades.
- Property managers and condo boards. Common-area work, suite work coordinated with management, and EV charging. See electrical services for property managers.
- General contractors. The electrical scope on commercial renovations and fit-outs, from temporary power to final inspection. See our work for builders.
Commercial services
What we take on
The core of our commercial work. If your job isn't listed, ask us: we'll tell you straight away whether it's something we do.
Tenant fit-outs
New circuits, lighting and devices for a new or changing tenant, built to the designer's drawings and inspected by ESA.
LED lighting retrofits
Replacing older fixtures and tubes with LED, adding controls such as occupancy sensors and timers, and fixing the lights that never worked properly.
Panels and service upgrades
More capacity for new equipment, replacing old or overloaded panels, and adding sub-panels where a space has run out of room.
EV charging
Chargers for staff, fleet or customer parking, sized to what the building's electrical service can support.
Repairs and troubleshooting
Breakers that keep tripping, dead circuits, flickering lights and anything that smells or sounds wrong.
Emergency and after-hours service
24/7 response when a business loses power or has an electrical hazard, and planned work outside opening hours.

Tenant, landlord or contractor?
Who hires the electrician on a commercial job depends on the lease and the project. Here's how it usually splits, so you know who to bring into the conversation.
| Job | Usually arranged by | What we need |
|---|---|---|
| Fit-out inside a leased unit | Tenant or their general contractor | Drawings, landlord's rules and access times |
| Base-building service or main panels | Landlord or property manager | Building drawings and a shutdown window |
| Common-area lighting | Property manager or condo board | Access to electrical rooms and a contact on site |
| EV charging in shared parking | Landlord, property manager or condo board | The building's electrical service details |
| Emergency repairs | Whoever is on site first | A call to (647) 930-2907 |

Over the years I have used a lot of contractors but these guys are simply the best. Full end to end service, I did not have to worry about a thing. Design, layout, permit, installation, patching, painting, etc. After completion, it was like they never had to run electrical conduits and cables throughout my house.
Questions
Commercial electrical: common questions
Do you work after hours so the business can stay open?
Yes. A lot of commercial work is planned around opening hours: early mornings, evenings or weekends, so customers and staff aren't disrupted. Tell us your hours when you book and we'll plan the shutdowns around them.
Who pulls the permits on a commercial job?
We do. As the licensed electrical contractor, we file the notification of work with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and book the inspections. If your project also needs a building permit from the city, that's usually handled by the general contractor or the designer, and we work to their drawings and schedule.
Can you work with our general contractor or landlord?
Yes. On tenant fit-outs we often work under a general contractor, and on base-building items we coordinate with the landlord or property manager. One point of contact on our side keeps everyone up to date.
Do you handle emergency calls for businesses?
Yes. Our line, (647) 930-2907, is answered 24/7 for emergencies. A business without power, or with a burning smell from a panel, gets the same urgent response as a home.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Marrast Contracting is a Licensed Electrical Contractor, licence ECRA/ESA 7016430, and every job is led by Shaldin Marrast, a Master Electrician. You can check our licence on the Electrical Safety Authority's contractor lookup at esasafe.com.
