Home EV charger installation in Mississauga
Most Mississauga homes have a driveway and a garage, which makes home charging easy to picture. The panel decides how easy it is to install. We check the load, run a dedicated Level 2 circuit and file the ESA permit.
Mississauga homes and cars
A commuter city with good garages
Mississauga was built around the car. Most detached homes in Erin Mills, Meadowvale, Streetsville and Churchill Meadows have an attached garage and a private driveway. That is the best starting point for home charging. The car parks in the same place every night, off the street and out of the weather.
The hard part is usually inside. In a 1970s or 80s two-storey, the panel tends to be in the basement, often on the far side from the garage. Many of those homes still run on 100 amps. A Level 2 charger is one of the biggest loads a house can carry, so the first job is a load calculation, not a drill.
Newer houses in Churchill Meadows and the northwest usually have 200 amps. Even so, a finished basement with its own kitchen, a heat pump and a second car can leave very little room.
What the load check tells you
Three possible answers
After the calculation, nearly every Mississauga home lands in one of these.
| Result | What it means | Where we see it most |
|---|---|---|
| Room to spare | A dedicated circuit goes straight onto the existing panel | 2000s homes with 200 amps and gas heat |
| Tight, but workable | A load management device lets the charger use power the house isn't using | 1980s homes on 100 amps with gas appliances |
| No room | The service needs upgrading before the charger goes in | Older bungalows on 60 or 100 amps with full panels |
Townhouses and condos
When it isn't just your decision
Mississauga has a lot of townhouses, and many belong to condominium corporations. Even where the garage is yours, the exterior walls and common wiring often are not. The board will want to see what is proposed before work starts, and we provide the electrical details they ask for.
Condo towers around the City Centre and along the Port Credit waterfront have underground parking with a building service shared by hundreds of units. Charging there depends on spare capacity, metering and how billing will work. We assess the electrical room and the route to your stall, then give management a clear proposal.

Charging speed
Level 1 or Level 2 for a Mississauga commute
A standard outlet adds only a few kilometres of range per hour. That can work for a plug-in hybrid or a short local drive. For a daily commute along the 401 or the QEW, most owners want a Level 2 charger, which refills most cars overnight.
Level 2 needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit, usually 40 to 60 amps, and an ESA permit. We mount the charger where the cable reaches the charge port without stretching across the garage floor.

Charger and panel together
If your home needs a service upgrade, installing the charger circuit on the same day saves a second Alectra disconnect.

EV chargers in Mississauga: questions
Our garage is attached but the panel is in the far corner of the basement. Is that a problem?
It's the most common layout we see in Mississauga two-storeys. The cable route through the basement ceiling and up into the garage sets most of the labour. In unfinished basements it's straightforward; in finished ones we plan the route around bulkheads and access panels.
Can you install a charger in a condo near Square One?
We can work with your property manager and board. They need to agree on the building's spare capacity, how your usage will be metered and billed, and the route to your stall. We assess the electrical room and give them a proposal they can review.
We're buying a second EV. Do we need a second full circuit?
Not necessarily. Two chargers that share one circuit and balance power between cars are often enough for daily commuting. On a 100 amp Mississauga home, that can be the difference between a simple install and a service upgrade.
Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. A Level 2 charger needs its own 240-volt circuit, usually 40 to 60 amps. We do a load calculation on your home first. If your panel has room, we install the charger on its own circuit. If it doesn't, the options are a panel or service upgrade, or in some homes a load management device that lets the charger share capacity. We'll tell you which applies.
