Level 2 EV chargers installed in Wasaga Beach
Most trips from Wasaga Beach are by car, and many are long. A Level 2 charger at home means a full battery every morning. We check the service, place the charger where snow won't bury it and file the ESA permit.
Driving from Wasaga Beach
A town where you drive everywhere
Wasaga Beach is spread out along the shore, and most errands mean getting in the car. Work, shopping and appointments often mean Barrie or Collingwood. A regular wall outlet can't keep up with that kind of driving in winter.
A Level 2 charger runs on its own 240-volt circuit. It refills a battery many times faster than a standard outlet. For most owners, that means plugging in after dinner and leaving with a full charge.
Cold weather matters here. Batteries lose range in the deep cold off the bay, and heating the cabin uses energy too. Charging at home lets you warm the car while it's still plugged in.
The housing mix shapes the install. Newer homes back from the beach usually have an attached garage and a modern panel. Older cottages may have a detached garage, a carport or just a gravel drive, and a smaller service.
Where the charger goes
Three common setups in Wasaga Beach
Where you park sets the route, the hardware and the price.
| Attached garage | Detached garage or shed | Driveway or carport | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical home | Newer subdivision house | Older cottage lot | Cottage or infill house |
| Cable route | Short run through the basement or garage wall | Underground feed or overhead from the house | Along the outside wall to a weather-rated unit |
| Things to watch | Panel capacity with other new loads | Trenching depth and a separate disconnect | Snow, the plough's path and where the cord hangs |
| Often paired with | Garage pot lights or a new outlet | A small subpanel for the building | Outdoor lighting at the parking spot |
Capacity first
Making sure the service can carry it
A charger is one of the largest loads in a house, and it can run for hours. Before we add one, we do a load calculation that counts heat, cooking, laundry, a hot tub and anything you plan to add.
In many Wasaga Beach homes, there's room. In a converted cottage with baseboard heat, there may not be. Then the choice is a service upgrade in Wasaga Beach. Where it fits, a load management device can pause charging when the house needs the power.
Outside, we choose a charger and a spot that suit the weather. Mounting height, cord reach and protection from snow and the plough all matter in a lake-effect winter. Our main EV chargers page has more on chargers and circuits.

Questions
EV chargers in Wasaga Beach: questions
Our house in a newer Wasaga Beach subdivision has an attached garage. Is that the easy case?
Usually. The panel is often in the basement close to the garage wall, so the cable run is short. We still do a load calculation, because a newer home may already carry a hot tub, a basement suite or electric heat.
Can a charger go on an older cottage service?
Sometimes. If the load calculation shows room, we add the circuit. If not, the choice is a service upgrade or, in some homes, a load management device that lets the charger share capacity. We tell you which fits.
We only come up on weekends. Is a Level 2 charger worth it?
It can be. A Level 2 charger can refill much of a battery overnight on Friday. That means you can drive around all weekend and head home on Sunday without hunting for a public charger.
Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. A Level 2 charger needs its own 240-volt circuit, usually 40 to 60 amps. We do a load calculation on your home first. If your panel has room, we install the charger on its own circuit. If it doesn't, the options are a panel or service upgrade, or in some homes a load management device that lets the charger share capacity. We'll tell you which applies.
