Wiring, new circuits and rewiring in Vaughan
In Vaughan, rewiring rarely means pulling out a failing system. It means adding the circuits a builder-grade house never got, wiring a basement or addition properly, or wiring a custom home from the studs out.
Wired to the minimum
What a Vaughan subdivision home was given
Builders in Vellore Village, Patterson, Maple and Sonoma Heights wired thousands of homes to the same plan. It meets the code, passes inspection and does the job. It also tends to give you one circuit for several bedrooms, one outlet per garage wall and nothing in the back yard.
That plan starts to pinch once you live there. A home office trips the bedroom circuit when the space heater runs. The kitchen island has no outlet. The garage can't run a freezer and a mitre saw together. Fixing that is a wiring job, and doing it well means new circuits run back to the panel, not extra outlets daisy-chained onto old ones.
Older pockets of Vaughan
Not all of Vaughan is new. The original Woodbridge village and parts of Thornhill have homes that predate the big subdivisions. Aluminum branch wiring was used in some Ontario homes built in the late 1960s and 1970s. If your house is from that era, an electrical inspection will show what you have before you plan a renovation.
Common Vaughan jobs
The wiring work we're asked for most here
Kitchen renovations
Dedicated counter circuits, an island outlet, under-cabinet lights and the right supply for an induction range.
Basement finishes
Lighting and outlets on their own circuits instead of tapped into the floor above, often with a sub-panel.
Garage workshops
Separate circuits for tools and a freezer, better lighting, and a 240-volt supply where it's needed.
Home offices
A dedicated circuit for the desk, network and printer, so a vacuum doesn't reset your computer.
Back yards
Weatherproof outlets, a feed for a pool pump or hot tub, and circuits for landscape lighting.
Second units
Separate circuits and alarms planned for a basement apartment.
For builders
Wiring a custom home from the studs out
Kleinburg's estate lots and the teardown-and-rebuild streets of Woodbridge keep Vaughan's custom builders busy. These houses are big, with long cable runs, more than one panel and detailed lighting plans. Getting the wiring right starts on paper, with a load calculation and a panel schedule that match the drawings.
- Design reviewPanel locations, home runs and lighting zones marked on the drawings
- Temporary powerSafe site supply from the first day
- Rough-inBoxes, cable and low-voltage pathways before insulation
- ESA rough-in inspectionBooked by us before the walls close
- Service and panelsConnected with Alectra once ESA authorizes it
- FinalDevices, fixtures and the Certificate of Acceptance
Finished houses
Adding circuits without opening every wall
Most Vaughan homes we work in are finished top to bottom, often with a finished basement as well. We plan routes before we start: up through closets, across the attic, along a bulkhead or behind a baseboard. Small access openings are made only where a cable can't be fished, and we tell you where they'll be first.
New circuits need space in the panel. If yours is full, we'll say so at the site visit and price a sub-panel or a panel upgrade in Vaughan alongside the wiring. Every job is permitted with ESA and covered by our 1-year workmanship warranty.
Questions
Wiring and rewiring in Vaughan: questions
My Vaughan house was built in 2005. Why would it need new wiring?
The existing wiring is usually fine. What's missing is enough of it. Production homes were wired to the minimum. A renovation, a home office or a garage workshop usually needs new circuits, not a replacement of what's there.
Can you wire a second unit in my Vaughan basement?
Yes. A second unit needs its own planning for lighting, kitchen circuits, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and how the unit is separated from the main house. The City of Vaughan handles the building permit, and we file the ESA permit for the electrical work.
Do you wire new custom homes for Vaughan builders?
Yes. We work for builders and general contractors from temporary power through rough-in, service connection and final. Bringing us in at the drawing stage makes lighting, panel locations and EV-ready garages much easier to get right.
Could my Vaughan home have aluminum wiring?
Most of Vaughan was built after aluminum branch wiring stopped being used in homes, so it's uncommon here. Some houses from the late 1960s and 1970s may have it. An electrical inspection is the reliable way to know what's behind your walls.
