Pot light and lighting installation across Vaughan
Vaughan homes tend to have tall ceilings, open-to-above foyers and big kitchens. We lay out pot lights, pendants and stair lighting to suit the height of each room, not just its floor area.
Tall rooms
Why Vaughan ceilings change the layout
Many Vaughan homes built since the 1990s have nine-foot main floors and a foyer open to the second storey. Some add a two-storey family room. Those rooms look great by day. At night, a builder's single fixture in each one leaves them dim and shadowed.
A grid of pot lights spaced by floor area doesn't fix it. In a tall room the light spreads further before it reaches you, so beam angle, spacing and glare matter more than the count. We plan each room around its height, what you do in it and where you sit, then match the fixtures to suit.
Lower basement ceilings are the opposite problem. Lights there sit close to your eyes, so we use soft, wide fixtures and keep them clear of seating.
Room by room
Lighting the rooms Vaughan homes share
| Room | What usually works | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Open-to-above foyer | A feature fixture plus narrow-beam pot lights | Reaching the ceiling safely and hiding the glare from the landing |
| Kitchen | Pot lights over the counters, pendants over the island, under-cabinet strips | Light falling on the work surface, not behind you |
| Two-storey family room | Fewer, brighter fixtures, sometimes wall lights at the lower level | Even light without a ceiling full of holes |
| Finished basement | Wide, soft fixtures on dimmers | Low ceilings, bulkheads and ductwork |
| Exterior soffits | Damp or wet-rated pot lights on a timer | Even spacing across the front of the house |

Adding lights to a finished house usually means fishing cable through closed ceilings. On the top floor we work from the attic. Between floors we plan routes along joists to keep access holes few and small.
Custom homes
Lighting plans for Kleinburg and Woodbridge builds
Custom homes in Kleinburg and rebuilds in Woodbridge often come with a designer's lighting plan. Expect stair lights, cove lighting, art lights, pendants and dozens of dimmed pot lights. We wire to the plan or help the builder create one. Fixture and dimmer choices are confirmed before rough-in, so nothing has to move later.
For a finished home in Maple, Thornhill or Vellore Village, the job is smaller but the approach is the same: plan first, then cut. Read more on pot lights and lighting, or see everything we do in Vaughan.

Pot lights and lighting in Vaughan: questions
Can you put pot lights in a two-storey family room ceiling?
Usually, yes. The ceiling is often reachable from the attic or a room above, which makes wiring easier than it looks. The bigger question is the fixture: a tall room needs a narrower beam and fewer, better-placed lights. We bring the right lift or scaffold and plan the layout with you first.
Can pot lights go in the soffits outside my Vaughan home?
Yes, and it's a common request. Soffit lights need fixtures rated for damp or wet locations, and they're usually set on a timer or a photocell. We run them on their own circuit so they're easy to control.
What colour temperature should I choose?
Most homes look best between 2700K and 3000K, which is warm and close to older bulbs. Kitchens and garages sometimes go a little cooler. Many slim LED fixtures let you switch colour temperature on the fixture, so we can try it in your room before we finish.
Will the lights work with my existing dimmers?
Not always. Dimmers made for older bulbs often flicker or buzz with LEDs. We replace them with LED-compatible dimmers matched to the fixtures, so the lights dim smoothly all the way down.
