Rewiring homes, barns and outbuildings in King
In King Township the wiring job is rarely just the house. We rewire older village homes, wire estate renovations from the studs out, and replace tired cable in barns, arenas and pool houses with equipment rated for those spaces.
Older King homes
Village houses with history
Some homes in King have stood for generations. You'll find them on Schomberg's main street, in the older blocks of King City and Nobleton, and along the concession roads. Their wiring has usually been updated in pieces. A kitchen was redone in one decade, a bathroom in another, and some original circuits were simply left in place.
In houses built before about the 1950s, that can mean knob-and-tube wiring still in use behind plaster. Homes from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s can contain aluminum branch wiring. Insurers often ask about both. An inspection of the panel and the wiring we can reach shows what you have before any plan is made.
Estate renovations
King's larger homes are often renovated on a big scale. Think of a new kitchen and great room, a primary suite, or a lower level with a theatre or gym. When walls and ceilings are opened that far, it's the right time to replace old circuits rather than extend them. We wire the new layout and retire what it replaces.
Beyond the house
Barns, arenas and pool houses
Outbuildings in King see harder use than the house, and their wiring often gets the least attention.
Exposed cable in a barn
Runs stapled across beams where rodents and equipment can reach them.
Corroded boxes and fixtures
Moisture and ammonia from stalls breaking down ordinary metal and plastic.
Extension cords for heaters
Water heaters and tank heaters plugged in because there's no proper outlet.
Dim riding arenas
Old fixtures that leave dark patches where horses and riders work.
Pool house add-ons
Pumps, heaters and lights added over the years without a plan.
A garage on one circuit
A detached building fed by a cable too small for its tools and chargers.
How we approach it
A plan for the whole property
On a King property, we look at the house and its outbuildings together. A barn rewire may need a new feeder from the house. A pool house may need its bonding checked as well as new circuits. A detached garage may be the right spot for a sub-panel that also serves a future charger.
We price each building as its own line, so you can do the urgent work first. Where cable has to be buried, we arrange locates through Ontario One Call before digging. Trenches are routed around gardens and drives where possible. If the main panel can't take the new work, see panel upgrades in King.
| Building | Common problem | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Older house | Mixed wiring from several decades | Phased rewire, each phase inspected |
| Barn or arena | Exposed, corroded or chewed cable | Rated enclosures and protected runs |
| Pool house | Equipment added piecemeal | Dedicated circuits and checked bonding |
| Detached garage | One undersized feed | New feeder and a sub-panel |
Step by step
Rewiring a King property
Inspection
House, panel and each outbuilding, with notes on what we find.
Phased proposal
Work grouped by building and urgency, each with a fixed price.

The work
Cable fished or trenched, finished spaces protected, animals kept clear.
Inspection and handover
ESA approves each phase and the old wiring is disconnected.
Smaller jobs
Circuits, outlets and switches
Plenty of King work is simpler. It might be a dedicated circuit for a wine fridge, island outlets, a heated waterer in the stable or a weatherproof outlet by the pool. Group them into one visit and we'll price them together. For more, see full home wiring.

Wiring and rewiring in King: questions
Why does barn wiring need different equipment?
Barns are damp and dusty, and moisture and animal waste corrode ordinary fittings. Hay dust can collect on fixtures and boxes. Rodents chew exposed cable. Wiring there needs enclosures, fixtures and cable suited to those conditions, and it should be protected where animals or equipment can reach it.
We're gutting part of our King house. Should we rewire the rest at the same time?
It's often the cheapest moment to do it. With the walls open, new circuits go in quickly and the old wiring in that area is removed completely. For rooms you're not opening, we can fish cable from the basement and attic in the same project.
Do you rewire older homes in King City and Schomberg?
Yes. We start by finding out what's in the walls, room by room, then plan the rewire in phases so the house stays liveable. Each phase is permitted and inspected by ESA.
Is your work guaranteed?
Every job comes with our 1-year workmanship warranty. Products carry their own manufacturer warranties on top of that, and standby generators can be covered by extended manufacturer warranties.
