Home EV charger installation in King Township
King households often have two or three cars and a garage with room for all of them. We plan Level 2 charging for the whole household, check how much the service can spare, and file the ESA permit.
King households
More cars, bigger garages
Driving is part of life in King. Residents head down Highway 400, across King Road and Highway 27, or to the GO station in King City. Many households keep more than one car, and electric cars increasingly make up part of the fleet. Home charging is what makes that practical.
Estate homes often have three- or four-bay garages, sometimes attached and sometimes in a separate building. The question is rarely whether there's space for a charger. It's how many chargers the service can support. The other question is layout, so each car can plug in without cables across the floor.
Village and newer homes
In King City, Nobleton and Schomberg subdivisions, the setup is closer to a suburban house: an attached garage and a panel in the basement. The install is usually a single dedicated circuit and a wall-mounted charger. If the panel is older or full, we'll talk about the options.
Two or more EVs
Charging several cars from one service
King's larger households have three common ways to do it.
| Separate circuits | Shared circuit | Load-managed | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Each charger has its own breaker | Linked chargers split one circuit | Chargers slow down when the house is busy |
| Charging speed | Full speed for every car | Shared when both are plugged in | Full speed most of the night |
| Service needed | The most capacity | Less than separate circuits | Works within the existing service |
| Suits | Large services with room to spare | Two cars that mostly charge overnight | Homes near their limit |
Estate loads
Fitting chargers into a busy service
A King estate can already carry heavy loads: several heating and cooling systems, a pool heater, heated floors and a well pump. A car charger running all night joins that list. We do a load calculation on the whole property before choosing circuits, so the chargers never push the service past what it can carry.
Where the numbers don't work, a King service upgrade may be worth it, especially if a pool or addition is also coming. Often, though, load management or shared chargers solve it without changing the service.

Picking chargers
Chargers that work together
If you're buying two chargers, choose models that can share power with each other. Mixing brands can rule that out. Smart chargers can also schedule charging overnight. Make sure any charger is certified for use in Canada. More detail is on our EV chargers page.
Building a garage?
Pipe it for later
If you're building a new garage in King, run the feeder and conduit for future chargers now. It costs far less than trenching twice.

EV chargers in King: questions
We have two electric cars. Do we need two full chargers on separate circuits?
Not necessarily. Two chargers on separate circuits give each car full speed, but they add a large load to the service. Many chargers can be linked to share one circuit and split power between the cars. For most households that still fills both cars overnight.
Our garage is a separate building down the driveway. How does power get there?
A buried feeder from the house panel to a sub-panel in the garage. We size the cable for the distance so the charger gets full voltage, and plan the trench route around the driveway and gardens. Locates are arranged before digging.
Can you install a charger outside by the front of the house?
Yes, with an outdoor-rated charger and fittings. We place it where the cable reaches the charge port easily and where snow from the plough or the roof won't bury it.
Do you take out the ESA permit?
Yes. In Ontario, the licensed contractor files the notification of work with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and books the inspection. We handle it on every job that needs one, and you get the ESA Certificate of Acceptance when the work passes. Keep it: insurers and home buyers often ask for it.
