Generac standby generator installation for Newmarket homes
When an ice storm or a summer thunderstorm takes the power out in Newmarket, a standby generator starts on its own. We size it, wire the transfer switch and see it through ESA inspection. As an authorized Generac dealer, we also supply the unit and keep it serviced.
Why Newmarket owners add one
Outages, basements and working from home
York Region gets its share of freezing rain in winter and strong thunderstorms in summer. Either can bring down lines and leave streets dark for hours. Most outages are short, but the long ones are the reason people call us.
Across Newmarket, so many basements are finished that the sump pump has become the most important circuit in the house. Heat comes a close second in January. For those who work from home, keeping the internet and a desk running counts too.
A standby generator sits outside on a pad and runs on natural gas or propane. When the utility supply drops, the automatic transfer switch moves your chosen circuits onto the generator. When power returns, it switches back and the generator shuts itself down.

Newer homes
Generators in Woodland Hill and Copper Hills
In Newmarket's newer neighbourhoods, the houses are larger and the lots are often narrow. Placement takes care, because side yards can be tight and the neighbours are close. We plan the location with the clearances in mind and talk it through with you before anything is ordered.
Larger homes often have central air and more than one living area, so owners lean toward whole-house coverage. We size the generator from a load calculation, not a guess. For other work we do in town, visit our Newmarket electrician page.
Questions
Backup generators in Newmarket: questions
Will a generator keep my Newmarket basement dry in an outage?
It will keep the sump pump running, which is usually what matters. We put the pump's circuit on the transfer switch. We also size the generator so the pump and furnace can start at the same moment.
Can I just use a portable generator with extension cords?
Extension cords are fine for a fridge or a lamp. Never connect a portable generator to your house wiring without a proper transfer switch, because it can send power back onto the utility lines. We can install an inlet and interlock, or a full standby system.
Where will the generator go on a smaller Newmarket lot?
It needs clearance from windows, doors, vents and the property line, and a short, practical route to the panel and the gas line. On tighter lots we look at the side yard and the back corner of the house. We'll mark the options on site with you.
What size generator do I need?
It depends on what you want running during an outage. Some homeowners back up essentials only (furnace, sump pump, fridge, a few lights and outlets). Others want the whole house. We look at your panel and how you use power, then recommend a size and a transfer switch to match.
