Level 2 EV charger installation in Aurora
Most Aurora homes can take a Level 2 charger. What changes is how much the panel can spare and how far the cable has to travel. We check both before we give you a price.
Three kinds of install
Charging at home across Aurora
Newer houses in Bayview Northeast and Bayview Wellington are often the simplest. Many have a 200 amp service, an attached garage and a short run from the basement panel. The charger usually goes on the garage wall nearest the panel.
The 1970s to 90s homes in Aurora Heights, Aurora Highlands and Aurora Grove vary more. Some have room. Others have a panel full of breakers added over the years. A sub-panel or load management often solves it without a full upgrade.
Older houses around the village core take the most planning. The service can be small, and the garage, if there is one, may sit at the back of the lot. We check capacity first, then work out the route.
What shapes the job
Four questions for every Aurora charger
How much capacity is spare?
A load calculation shows what the service can give the charger without tripping the main.
Is there a space in the panel?
A charger needs a two-pole breaker. A full panel may need a sub-panel.
How far is the run?
Panel to garage, through a finished basement or outside, decides much of the work.
Garage or driveway?
Indoor installs are simplest. Outdoor ones need a rated charger and weatherproof wiring.

Two cars, or one later
Planning for more than one charger
Many Aurora families have two cars, and more households are replacing both with electric models over time. If that's likely, plan for it now. Some chargers can share one circuit and split the power between them.
In older homes, a charger is often the reason to replace a small or full panel. Doing both on one visit saves a second permit. See panel upgrades in Aurora, or read about EV charger installation in general.
New builds
Moving into a newer Aurora home
Some newer houses come with a rough-in for a charger, such as a capped circuit or a conduit to the garage. Check your builder's documents or send us a photo of the garage wall and the panel. If the rough-in is there, finishing the install is usually quick. For everything else we do locally, see our Aurora page.
Questions
EV chargers in Aurora: questions
Our panel in Aurora Highlands is full. Can we still get a charger?
Often, yes. If the service has capacity but no spaces, a small sub-panel can make room. If capacity is the problem, a load management device may let the charger share power with the house. A load calculation tells us which applies.
Can you run power to a detached garage?
Yes. The cable runs underground in a trench or along an approved route, then feeds the charger in the garage. It's a bigger job than an attached garage, so we price it after measuring the run.
Will a charger work through an Aurora winter outdoors?
Yes, if it's rated for outdoor use. Many Level 2 units are. We mount it on the wall or a post and weatherproof the wiring and connections.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Marrast Contracting is a Licensed Electrical Contractor, licence ECRA/ESA 7016430, and every job is led by Shaldin Marrast, a Master Electrician. You can check our licence on the Electrical Safety Authority's contractor lookup at esasafe.com.
